This Kananaskis hiking wedding was so relaxed yet adventurous, well planned yet low stress, and stunningly beautiful. It was their dream day and I was honoured I got to be a part of it.

Emily and Cowan had a beautiful idea for their wedding. They wanted to get married on a mountain, surrounded by nature. But they also wanted their families there to share the moment. After discussing their vision, we settled on a hiking wedding in Kananaskis.

We met at the trailhead, and all 17 of us set out to hike to the chosen summit. When we reached the top, a helicopter arrived with Cowan’s grandma. This special touch allowed her to join the ceremony, making it even more memorable.

Emily’s brother officiated the wedding, standing with them at the summit as the family watched, some sitting in camp chairs, some standing, while Emily and Cowan exchanged vows and rings. It was a simple yet meaningful ceremony. After saying “I do,” we celebrated with paper cups and champagne that some siblings hiked up.

After a few moments to celebrate, the family began their descent. We said goodbye to grandma as her helicopter took her back down the mountain. I hung out with Emily and Cowan while they explored the summit and took in the view, and grabbed some natural-feeling portraits. They shared a celebratory beer, then attached the cans and “just married” signs to their backpacks, their version of a getaway car.

Back at the bottom of the mountain, we gathered at a nearby waterfall to sign the official paperwork with their family. Then, we returned to their lodge to freshen up. We captured some formal family photos, then headed into town for their dinner reservation. I felt like I was among friends as I snapped a few photos for memories.

The day was a perfect blend of adventure and quality time. It felt effortless yet intentional. The stunning location they chose was the perfect venue. It was exactly what Emily and Cowan dreamed of and it was an honour to be part of such a special day.
