I’m bursting to share Layne and Mike’s intimate wedding in Edmonton – it’s been living rent free in my head ever since.

They set the scene in their cozy home in Sherwood Park, where they spent the morning together getting ready. The thing that stood out to me most was the calm peaceful energy. They separated to change into their wedding clothes, had a few moments alone, and then shared a super sweet first look on their staircase.
Now, the cool part was that Layne and Mike wanted the ceremony to feel really personal, so they sent their family and friends ahead to pick the perfect spot in the park at Government House. The anticipation was palpable as they walked toward the area where their guests were gathered – a beautiful tree covered in pink blossoms. The moment felt so intimate as they exchanged their vows. Everyone there was just fully present, soaking it all in. There was no rush, just a beautiful, relaxed vibe that made it feel magical.
After saying “I do,” they were welcomed with heartfelt congratulations from their loved ones. We snapped some group photos, which were filled with laughter and real connection. Then, we took a stroll around the Government House property for a few portraits. A lot of it was just candid, unposed moments of them together, where they could simply enjoy each other’s company.
Once we finished up there, we made our way to Mike’s family’s acreage for the reception. There, the energy shifted to vibrant, energetic and lively. It was set under a clear tent adorned with colourful candles, flower arrangements, and even custom sunglasses for all the guests. SO fun. And they encouraged everyone to wear bright colours, so the guests were all dressed to impress! Dinner was served, and trust me, the speeches had everyone laughing and crying, including me. After that, the energy just skyrocketed as people mingled, sipped cocktails, and danced under the lights.
The entire day was a perfect blend of joy, love, and togetherness, leaving me with that warm, nostalgic feeling long after everything wrapped up. Layne & Mike wanted a photographer who would help them be present on their wedding day. They wanted a photographer who would help them prioritize their own experience over any performance. Their wedding was a celebration of presence, love, and community, and honestly, nothing captures the essence of a day like that better than a documentary photographer. Being present on such a rare day in your life is truly priceless. So choose someone to be in charge of your memories who you can trust to relay your experience the way you remember it. And having a documentary photographer on your wedding day ensures you can both live in the moment, and remember those moments in years to come.
