I am SO EXCITED share this laid back, intimate in-home session with Paige and Zach. It was seriously such a special experience getting to witness and capture their true connection, with minimal distraction. This session was shot alongside Carissa Marie Photography, during my mentorship with her (which was AMAZING, more on that later!)
When asked what Zach loves about Paige, he said he is drawn to both her willpower and fierceness, and her nurturing personality. Paige loves that Zach has big emotions and feelings that he is not afraid to show. Describing their love story in one word, they said, “growth”. My heart.
We also asked them what they love to do together: “some of our favourite times are spent reading together in bed, just cuddling and reading our separate books, just being together and cozy”. So, that’s what we did. Knowing these intricacies of their relationship helped curate the setting and approach to our session, so that they felt totally themselves and seen.
I’ve always been a huge fan of an intimate in-home session. They allow an intimacy that you just can’t replicate in any other location. Being in this space allowed Paige and Zach to really, truly relax. Letting them have their laughter, tenderness and sweet moments without manufacturing it create such laid-back and authentic photos.
I especially love that the simplicity of the session perfectly mirrors their relationship. These two are a couple who value the simple joys of being together, and that’s exactly what we wanted to capture. The coziness of the home added an extra layer of warmth to the images and allowed them to simply be themselves.
I learned so much from Carissa during this shoot. I had always craved a more honest and documentary approach to my work, but didn’t know how to make my couples feel comfortable with less direction and posing. Not only did I create some of my favourite and most me images I’ve ever taken during this intimate in-home session, but I learned so much about communicating with my couples, telling their stories honestly, and how to just pay attention to what is unfolding before me. I learned that simply being present, both myself and helping my couples be, makes a world of difference in the experience and the final product. And, I learned that with a bit of preparation and a lot of letting our guard down, we can create images that look how your love truly feels.
So thank you, Paige & Zach, for giving us your time, for allowing us into your love bubble and for being so vulnerable and yourselves with us. And thank you, Carissa, for all your knowledge, talent, and creativity that you shared with me, for creating such a perfect space for me to learn, and especially for believing in me. This mentorship was everything and more and I can’t wait to extend everything I’ve learned to my incredible couples!
